Targeted
Amino Acid Therapy Stops Your Symptoms
by, Sherry Radoff, CNC, SMC-C
You may be the kind of patient many
doctors can't seem to help. You may have heard them say, "I
can't find anything wrong." And it's true. Your lab
tests return negative.
You may be suffering from a neurotransmitter imbalance. The
general population has low serotonin levels (one of the
neurotransmitters), which show up as eating disorders, insomnia,
depression, no drive and a general 'worn out' feeling.
Targeted Amino Acid Therapy (TAAT) is the fine tuning of the neurotransmitter engine.
Your neurotransmitters run day and night like a machine which connects
to all cells (if your car's engine is broken, then your car won't run
properly). By taking
amino acids (as well as other minerals and vitamins) that are specially
targeted to get rid of your specific symptoms (cravings, mood swings,
lack of energy, anxiety, stress, oversensitive feelings + more),
you will be able to jump-start your mis-programmed brain chemistry and
your symptoms will stop! The two dozen amino acids present in the human body are now being shown to be among the most potent healing substances ever discovered. These constituents of protein are necessary to everyday life processes,
as well as a vast range of therapeutic functions for amino acids.
Neurotransmitters are made from amino acids (the building blocks of all
proteins) which we get from the food we eat or from taking
supplements.
Poor diet, your lifestyle, stress, traumatic life events and
prescription medications, anti- depressants, street drugs (cocaine,
heroin, marijuana), vegetarianism, birth control pills, caffeine,
alcoholism, anorexia nervosa, physical illnesses (gastrointestinal
disorders, cancer, burns, post-surgery, chronic liver and kidney
disease), exposure to chemicals, tobacco use, will accelerate
neurotransmitter depletion leaving us without the ability to make the
chemical messengers necessary for healthy brain function.
If you drop too low in neurotransmitters, you will experience many
symptoms, which usually are debilitating and can remain constant and
intense. The appropriate amino acids taken as supplements will
safely raise the levels of all four emotion generating neurotransmitters
in your brain known as: serotonin, catecholamines, GABA and
endorphins.
Neurotransmitters affect everywhere in the body. They run day and
night. Neurotransmitters move our moods, thoughts, emotions and
impulses throughout the brain. The brain is the center of our
moods, thoughts, feelings and emotions (fear, anxiety, happiness, love,
excitement etc.). The brain also directs motor functions, the
musculoskeletal system, stimulates respiration, oversees digestion,
manages growth and development and manages the nervous
system.
Neurotransmitters become inactive once they've delivered a message and
then they need to be replenished. They are chemicals that act as
synapse between 200,000 billion neurons in the brain. The brain
transmits billions of messages between neurons every second.
Food alone is not enough. By conservative RDA standards, the
average American diet is commonly deficient in most vitamins, minerals
and amino acids. Rarely does food alone supply
"adequate" amounts of these essential nutrients. Also,
there are many life circumstances and stresses as well as medications
that necessitate greater than usual amounts of nutrients, circumstances
that interfere with absorption and metabolism, procedures for food
growth and processing that deplete the nutrients in your food. For
example, if you are a smoker, each cigarette causes your body to utilize
25 mg of vitamin C. If you smoke one and half packs daily, that
would be 750 mg of vitamin C just to break even, without having any left
over for the bodily functions related to needing vitamin C.
